Grammar Activity

The following activity will be completed in class. Materials will be provided by the teacher.
Read the following passage from The Curious Garden.
“Liam ran up the stairs, pushed open the door, and stepped out onto the railway. The first thing he saw was a lonely patch of color. Wildflowers and plants were the last things he had expected to find up there. But when he took a closer look, it became clear that the plants were dying. They needed a gardener.”
Separate the words into four categories of the parts of speech: nouns, adjectives, verbs, and adverbs. Take the word cards from the passage and sort them. When you have checked with a teacher that all of the words are in the correct categories, create four sentences using those words. You may use as many of the words as you want, but be sure to use at least one word from each of the four parts of speech. Write these sentences on a separate sheet of paper with your name at the top. Turn this into the Grammar Basket.
